Your Healing Journey: A Portal to Awakening Your Life Purpose
by Kathy Harmon-Luber
If we’re lucky to live long enough, everyone will experience a healing journey. Illness, injury, pain, loss, and grief are part of life. We naturally ask, “Why me?” and fall into the downward spiral: What if this happens? What if it’s terrible? What if I lose my job/partner/friends/house? What will become of me?!
Instead of experiencing disruptions as an unfortunate event that happened to you, let’s get curious about why this might be happening for you. Your healing journey is embedded in your life’s journey, which is embedded in your soul’s journey. Disruption, change, and loss can open a portal to your soul… to the journey we were born for.
From that perspective, questions can become catalysts for transformation, awaken us to deeper connection with ourselves, the Divine, and our unique path of meaning and purpose.
9 Questions to Guide Us (at any age) in Finding Our Soul Path
- What if I decide, right now, to fall in love with my future… and trust that I’ll be taken care of no matter what happens?
- What if something wonderful is about to happen? Something BETTER! Get curious.
- What if I can let go of what no longer serves me, including my old stories, old ways of being… and live a more joyful life of purpose? What must I walk away from?
- In that space of letting go, what if I can explore something that has always inspired me? Wander down the rabbit hole of things that light you up. Maybe your soul is calling you toward your path of purpose.
- What if I decide today to replace fear with an act of love? Gratitude, hope, peace, and acts of kindness to ourselves and others—a smile, a meal, a garden, a song—are acts of love.
- Inspired by BillieEilish’s song… What if I set the intention to learn from my soul, the answer to, “What am I made for?”
- What if I only had a year or two to live… how would I live my life differently, with no regrets at the end? What would I wish my legacy to be?
- What if I could take one step today that my future self will be grateful for five years from now? What would that be?
- What if my soul’s evolution is the most important work of my lifetime? How can I remove distractions and create more space for it?
Here’s how to play with these questions:
- State your intention to contemplate a question for a day, a week, a month, a season.
- Find your inner stillness (meditate, walk in nature, etc.). Ground in your breath.
- Pick a question that resonates with you.
- Ask your question. Listen to your heart.
- Answers might not come immediately. As you move through daily life, keep listening for the whispers, synchronicities, and signs. Be sure to journal them.
- Change begins with one breath, one thought, one intention, one prayer, one step. Stand in your authenticity. Be in the flow of your soul’s evolution, its blossoming.
- Then ask another question.
Poet Mary Oliver asks us, “What will you do with your one precious life?” Just imagine how amazing the world would be if everyone on the planet discovered, and lived in alignment with, their soul’s purpose. Namaste.
